I wish I could say warmer days are here...but for me, they definitely are not, proof by the 3 inches of snow out my doorstep. Even though it's still below freezing outside, I'm hopefully for those warmer spring days full of sun! So, I figured a good way to help that feeling is to decorate for spring inside. Today I'm excited to share with you my front living room decorated with a vintage cottage vibe for spring.

As you can see in this room, there's quite a bit of antique and vintage finds. I love old books, stoneware, candlesticks and furniture. This room is where most of my collections are on display. This barrister bookshelf is one such find full of all of my oldest books. There are some from the 1700s in here!

To lighten up the dark shelves, I added this faux apothecary cabinet I made in the middle. Also adds quite a bit of character itself.

I realized the other day that I could decorate the top of my couch. This couch is actually a pull out futon type bed from Ikea so it has a pretty sturdy back on it. I placed some empty frames from Antique Farmhouse on it along with this beautiful vintage painting I found at a local thrift store.

This room definitely shows I'm a maximalist with my decor now :) I used to believe in all the rules when it came to decorating. Only one focal point, minimal, let your eye rest here, nothing below or above eye level there...etc. Although the "rules" are good, I believe highly in making your home how you love it and for you. Just because someone on the internet says to not do it doesn't mean you have to listen, especially if you love it.

The "focal" point of this room is this amazing vintage mantel. I got it for a steal years ago from a classified ad. I topped it with my great, great grandma's mirror. This mirror survived a house fire many many years ago. It has the smoky glass to prove it. It's such a special piece.

For the decor on the mantel, I used a few of my favorite things: candlesticks and books. I added my collection of white floral paintings. Most of these came from Hobby Lobby except my favorite one linked here.

This amazing garland is from Hobby Lobby as well. I had it out for Christmas and thought it would be perfect for every season. These brass sconces are a present from my husband. I knew they would pair so well with this mirror to give a total vintage vibe in here.

Something I haven't talked about in here is this amazing new rug. I wasn't planning on getting a new rug, but came across this one (and a beige one) from Costco for $119. I couldn't resist, and got both. I then had a decision to make on which one to keep...or keep both. So, instead I bought a third one, ha! You'll have to come back soon when I share which rug I decided to keep for my main living room. This rug though in here brightened up the entire space. It's been so nice!

These curtains were the perfect way to add some pattern into the space now that I went with a more neutral rug. I made them in about five minutes with this tutorial.

This corner is the best place to cozy up and read a book. It shows that gallery walls can still be cute, and showing off family pictures is still a thing :) This chair is an old Victorian era chair I had my eye on, then my husband bought it for me for my birthday. I was so worried about my cats ripping it up, but I used those little sticky sheets on it, and they haven't touched it since! This cute old nightstand is acting as a side table. I thrifted this as well, painted it, and changed out the hardware.

I love having this room in my house that I can add all my wood tones and colors to. It itches that bug while I can keep the other rooms in my house a little more neutral.
