Premier League: Tottenham win at Sheffield United, Chelsea secure sixth spot, Newcastle finish seventh - TNT Sports (2024)

Tottenham won at Sheffield United, Chelsea beat Bournemouth, Newcastle won at Brentford, and Jean-Philippe Mateta hit a hat-trick as Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa.

Spurs end season on a high

Tottenham took on bottom club Sheffield United as Ange Postecoglou looked to end the season on a high after recent struggles, with Dejan Kulusevski scoring after 14 minutes, and Pedro Porro scored his side’s second on 59 minutes. Kulusevski added a third on 65 minutes.

The win saw Tottenham finish in fifth spot.

Chelsea edge out Bournemouth

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was looking to build on recent impressive results ahead of a decision on his future, and he was helped when Moises Caicedo put the home side in front against Bournemouth after just 17 minutes. An early second half own goal from Benoit Badiashile gave the visitors hope but Chelsea held on to take sixth spot and a UEFA Europa League place - depending on Manchester United's FA Cup fortunes.

Forest beat relegated Burnley

Burnley had nothing but pride to play for as they were already relegated, and two early goals from Chris Wood suggested Nottingham Forest would be easy winners, but they added no more to their tally and Josh Cullen scored for Vincent Kompany’s men for their last goal in the Premier League for at least another season.

Mateja dazzles in Palace romp

Jean-Philippe Mateta, linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain to replace Kylian Mbappe this summer, did his chances of a big-money move no harm with two first-half goals to dent Aston Villa’s Premier League finale.

Another player linked with a summer transfer, Ebereche Eze, scored his side’s third on 54 minutes. Mateta completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes before Eze added another as Oliver Glasner’s team ran riot.

Newcastle secure seventh with win

Newcastle blitzed Brentford with three goals in the first half, as Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak scored in a 17-minute window.

Vitaly Janelt pulled a goal back early in the second half, and Yoane Wissa scored on 70 minutes.

Bruno Guimaraes’ future is in doubt with Newcastle looking to raise funds in the summer, and he again proved his value with his side’s fourth as he followed up to convert a rebound from a free-kick parried into his path, with Newcastle's European fortunes also dependent on The Red Devils' FA Cup result.

Luton bow out of Premier League with defeat to Fulham

Luton Town were already down when they played host to Fulham and a frenetic end to the first half saw Adama Traore open the scoring for Marco Silva’s men on 43 minutes. Carlton Morris levelled from the spot three minutes later, before Raul Jimenez scored eitjher side of the interval.

Alfie Doughty reduced the deficit to a single goal five minutes from the hour mark but a 68th-minute strike from Harry Wilson gave Fulham a 4-2 win.

Erik ten Hag's Manchester United took on Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton in what was the last game for the Italian as Brighton manager.

Ten Hag is under pressure at Manchester United and he still has an FA Cup final with Manchester City to come. The first-half ended goalless, but with 17 minutes remaining, defender Diogo Dalot broke free of the opponent’s offside trap and slid in the winner, and Rasmus Hojlund added a late second.
