Our Facilities

More than 1,600 students can live on campus in our traditional residence halls, suite-style hall, and apartment complexes. Costs and living configurations vary depending on how many roommates you have and what type of space you choose.

In addition to our on-campus housing options, the Lock Haven University Foundation owns and operates Evergreen Commons, an off-campus apartment style student housing complex.

Traditional Residence Halls
  • Immerse yourself in the quintessential college experience with a strong community atmosphere and student interactions. Available to all students, traditional residence halls feature hall-style, standard double rooms that are typically shared with one roommate. Students share a community bathroom equipped with multiple showers, sinks, and toilets located on each floor or wing.
Suite-Style Residence Halls
  • Offering more privacy and the opportunity to closely bond with a suitemate, suite-style living is available in both single and double occupancy to all students. Students choose between a shared suite layout featuring a double bedroom with an in-room bathroom and a private suite layout featuring two single bedrooms attached to a small common area with an in-suite bathroom.
Apartment Complexes
  • Apartment communities offer the greatest opportunity for independence allowing students to take control of their living experience. Apartment layouts feature a double bedroom with a separate living room and kitchen or a single bedroom/living room/kitchen combined area, Apartments are available to non-traditional students and students who have already completed their first year of college.
Pet-Friendly Housing
  • Students now can bring their furry friend to campus with them when they choose to live in our designated pet-friendly Smith Hall and Campus Village. One cat, one dog OR two small caged animals (limited to gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits) per residential room is permitted on campus in any academic year. Fish housed in a tank no larger than 10-gallons are permitted in all residential facilities.
  • Dogs and cats must be at least six (6) months of age and must have been owned by the student or the student’s family for at least three (3) months prior to applying. In addition to selecting a room in a designated pet-friendly residence hall during housing selection, students must complete the Pet Friendly Residence Hall Registration Packet, pay the pet registration fee, and receive final approval from Housing and Residence Life prior to bring their pet to campus. Please email housing@lockhaven.edu to request a registration packet.
Gender-Inclusive Housing
  • Recognizing that single-gender housing may not be preferred by all students, Housing & Residence Life has established residential spaces not defined by the traditional gender binary (male and female). Students selecting Gender Inclusive Housing may choose a roommate, suitemate, or apartment mate from across the gender spectrum regardless of biological sex.
    • Gender inclusive housing may be of interest to:
      • Members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies
      • Students who are exploring their gender identity
      • Students who are gender non-conforming
      • Students who feel more comfortable with a roommate of a different gender identity
    • Residence Halls with designated gender inclusive housing:
      • Smith Hall - Students share double bedrooms and a communal semi-private bathroom designated as gender-inclusive.
      • Fairview Suites – In a shared suite, two students share a common bedroom and in-suite bathroom. In a private suite, two students share a common area and in-suite bathroom with separate bedrooms.
      • Campus Village – Two students share a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment (upperclassmen only)
  • Gender-Inclusive Housing is not intended for romantic couples, but rather for students seeking to live in an open and inclusive community. It is important for students to understand that romantic relationship challenges and break-ups can pose significant housing conflicts and new accommodations cannot be guaranteed.
Double-as-Single or Single Housing
  • Students seeking the privacy of their own room combined with the connections and community of a residence hall can choose a Double-as-Single room - a double room designed to house two students but reserved for only one. All of the standard double room furniture (e.g. two beds, two desks, etc.) will remain in the double-as-single for the entire academic year.
    • Residence Halls with the Double-as-a-Single option:
      • Double-as-Single in Smith Hall
      • Double-as-Single in Fairview Suites (shared suites only)
      • Double-as-Single apartment in Campus Village (upperclassmen only)
  • Students interested in the independent living of Campus Village’s apartments but don’t want the responsibility of a standard apartment can also select a Campus Village Efficiency, which is a single apartment designed to house only one student. The number of Double-as-Singles and efficiency apartments is limited and subject to availability.
International Roommates
  • Students seeking to explore cultures and life experiences different from their own can request an international student as their roommate. International students may be exchange students attending LHU for one or two semester only, or be degree-seeking students here until they graduate. International students typically are housed in either Smith Hall or Woolridge Hall.
  • Because the number of new international students changes from year to year, students are unable to request a specific country of origin and are not guaranteed to be assigned an international roommate. Please email housing@lockhaven.edu for more information.

Safety & Services

Residential Staffing

Residential staffing varies depending on the size and layout of the building. In general, residence halls have one to three Resident Assistants (RA) per floor. Apartments are staffed in a similar fashion with at least one RA per building side. All RAs are current university students who are trained in a variety of areas and can assist with any issue or challenge you may have.

In addition to the RA staff, each building is supervised as part of a larger area. The staff person supervising these areas is the Assistant Director (AD). ADs are professional staff members who have earned master’s degrees and are ultimately responsible for the staff and students within the area's buildings which they supervise.

University Police

The University Police Department employs commissioned armed police officers to enforce Pennsylvania crime and vehicle codes, university policies and campus parking.

Fire Safety

Each residence hall room, suite and apartment has one or more sprinkler heads and hard-wired smoke detectors. The hallways and common areas are equipped in a similar fashion. Twice a semester, fire drills are conducted as required by Pennsylvania state law.

Internet Access

Lock Haven has partnered with Apogee to provide campus residential internet service and customer support to your residence hall. To make sure you’re connected to WiFi, follow the steps below. Please read the instructions in their entirety before attempting to connect.

Get started with your laptop, phone or tablet
  1. For iOS14+ and Android 10+ devices - turn off your private address or MAC randomization feature on your device before connecting.
  2. From your available networks, connect to the network called “MyResNet-StartHere”
  3. Next, open a browser to be redirected to the portal
  4. Sign up for a new account using your school credentials (username & password)
  5. Follow the instructions in the portal to add devices and create your personal passkey
  6. Reconnect your devices to the preferred “MyResNet-5G” or “MyResNet-2G” using your new personal wireless passkey, be sure to check the remember my password option
  7. From your available networks, forget the network called “MyResNet-StartHere” as it is no longer needed and will not allow you to browse
Difference between 5g and 2G
  • Always Connect to Student-5G for faster, uninterrupted wireless connectivity.
  • Only devices that cannot see the Student-5G network should connect to Student-2G.
  • To ensure a constant connection to Student-5G, you need to eliminate the option for your device to connect to the 2G network. Improve your experience now and go to your devices wireless settings and forget Student-2G network.

Technology Support

Commonwealth University Information Technology provides resources and assistance to help students with any tech issues they encounter, from setting up their campus accounts to troubleshooting software problems.

Television Services

Beginning in the summer of 2021, we will no longer supply cable TV service to student residential rooms, suites, and apartments. This decision was a direct result of students' preferences. Of the residential students surveyed, 99% requested the University prioritize access to streaming and gaming services over cable TV access. In fact, only 71% of respondents reported having a television in their room and of those only 35% reported having their television connected to cable.

Residents wanting to watch live TV in a large group setting are welcome to use the TV lounges throughout the residence halls, which will remain connected to cable TV.

Streaming Services

Our partnership with MyResNet provides the high-speed internet access you need to stream your favorite movies, shows, and more from the comfort of your residence hall. We encourage you to utilize MyResNet to access your streaming service of choice. Also, many cable providers allow college students to bring your family’s cable service with you to campus through a streaming service. Check with your home cable provide to see what options are available to you.

When you get a letter, postcard, or note from home, it's delivered to your mailbox in your residence hall lobby. The official mailing address for any on-campus student is:

University Mail Services

The Lock Haven Student Auxiliary Services, Inc. has contracted with Equipment Marketers, Maytag and ITC Systems to provide energy efficient laundry machines. Maytag Energy Star-rated front-load washers and commercial dryers are available in all of our residence halls.

Laundry Costs

The standard rate for one washer cycle is $1.50 and one dryer cycle is $1.25. Students can use Haven Dollars, which is a campus-only, debit account administered by the University Card Center and made available via their university identification card, or pay with quarters.

Money can be put on your Student I.D. for laundry by visiting the Haven Dollars website or by visiting the Haven Dollars kiosk in Bentley Dining Hall, next to the ATM.

Washer or dryer not working?

If you have any issues with a washer or dryer, please contact the Assistant Director of Residence Life who oversees your residence hall. Make sure to include the number of the machine that is having the issue, a detailed description of the issue, and how much money you lost if you would like to receive a refund.

Helpful Tips

If you find that the soap has not completely rinsed out of your clothes most likely you used more than 1/3 of the soap recommended for a top loading machine, wash again with the recommended amount of soap for a front loading washing machine.

When a resident uses their Haven Dollars to pay for a washer, the washer is automatically considered to be "in-use" for a period of forty-five minutes. If the chosen cycle is less than forty-five minutes, the washer will not be available for use with another Haven Dollars account until the forty-five minutes has elapsed.

If you experience a machine malfunction, please follow the instructions posted in each laundry facility.

Personal Property Insurance

A leader in providing college student personal property insurance, National Student Services, Inc's (NSSI) coverage plans are designed specifically for students living in college or university residence halls or off-campus housing. NSSI offers insurance plans featuring low deductibles and affordable premiums.

PSECU (Credit Union)

Because you belong to the Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg campus community you are eligible for a Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU) membership. There are three PSECU ATMs on campus in Soltz Hall, the Student Services Center and Monty’s.

Student Employment

The overall goal of a Resident Assistant is to serve as a peer educator and helper while facilitating the personal and academic growth and development of residential students. RAs are chosen on the basis of leadership experiences, interpersonal skills, interest in working with students to develop a positive floor/hall/apartment community, and willingness to be actively involved in their own personal growth and development.

The Fall 2024 Resident Assistant hiring process has concluded. The Spring 2025 Resident Assistant hiring process will be available in early-October.
