Eggless Chocolate Orange Cake Recipe - Bake with Shivesh (2024)

Happy World Chocolate Day! I love these days that celebrate the finer things in life. I’m celebrating the chocolate day with this decadent eggless chocolate orange cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting and I also made it last week for my best friend’s birthday and everyone at the party wiped it clean within minutes. It’s that good!

Orange and chocolate are one of my favorite combinations. Adding the zest of an entire orange into this cakes make is so flavorful and fun, and obviously delicious!

The cream cheese frosting is an absolute favorite and just imagine adding chocolate to it which makes it ten times richer and tastier! It makes the eggless chocolate orange cake so much better than a normal un-frosted cake. Add some coffee powder in the frosting, which does not only enhance the flavor but also stabilizes the sweet taste of the frosting.

Ingredients for the Eggless Chocolate Orange Cake

This recipe requires you to use Greek yogurt but you can simply go for curd hung overnight. I think yogurt is the best substitute for eggs, but if you’re looking for more, you can also refer to my blog post about all egg substitutes possible!

If you’d like to use condensed milk for this eggless chocolate orange cake, just use one cup of condensed milk instead of the yogurt and 3/4 cup water instead of milk and you’re pretty much sorted!

Also, since the recipe uses orange zest, remember to wash the orange properly, zest only until the orange part, and always extract fresh zest so it can give your chocolate orange cake the perfect orange flavor it deserves!

Hi, can I substitute milk with orange juice?…. to intensify the orange flavour. Or u think, just the orange zest gives a good enough orange flavour

    Hi Shivesh,

Quick question. I tried this recipe for my husband’s birthday over the weekend. The flavours were just too good but my batter was very thick. Is that how it is supposed to be? I felt the cake was a little hard in texture. Not really moist and I followed the measurements to the dot. Any suggestions?

Hi Shivesh, I love all your recipes, they are my go to no fail recipes. quick check on this one, can i use ‘mosambi’ or ‘sweet lime’ juice instead of orange? Will that work? If not, do you have another recipe with ‘mosambi’ instead?

Hi, tried this cake in microwave, but was dense… the top was burnt but the bottom of the cake was still runny. Had to bake it for more than 40minutes in the convection mode of microwave. Where did I go wrong?
I like all your recipes. Tried your eggless chocolate cake as well in microwave, that also took around 40minutes and was not very moist
My friends use your recipes in ovens and their cakes turn out fabulously yummy!!!
Please reply… what I am doing wrong?

I baked it with a little variation. I used 1/2 cup of refined oil instead of butter, only 1 cup of sugar and two extra tbs of milk and it came out well but needed about 45 mins instead of 30 mins to bake. Came out well.
